

Camp Alderkill Retirement and Museum Site


Margaret Melissa Isenhuth was born May 7, 1904 in South Dakota. She had one sister and two brothers. She met and married Mr.Koepke and lived in Chicago, Illinois. She later divorced Mr Koepke and ran a Day Care Center in in NYC from 1931 to 1938. Where she met and hired a helper and cook named Lallie Menzies who later became a cook and a major character for Camp Alderkill.
Mrs. Treadwell drove an Army Ambulance Red Cross until the wars end in 1945. The land for Camp Alderkill is recorded in the Frank Teal papers as having been also purchased in 1945 and she also met and married Sid Dresser until he passed away in 1961. She later met and married John P. Treadwell while on a cruise in 1963. John Treadwell passed away a few years later.
In the final years of her life she ran successfully Camp Alderkill until she felt she could no longer run the camp by herself (read Treadwell Farewell) so in 1971 She sold Camp Alderkill to the Petersens. Mrs Treadwell passed away in December 1980.

The Petersen years encompassed 1972 to 1978. The Camp Directors were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Petersen. Mr Petersen was a retiree of the Pennsylvania railroad, and Mrs. Petersen still commuted to her job in NYC during the work week. Miss Evelyn Petersen was the Camp Program Director and a graduate of Colorado Alpine College and Milton College. Evelyn was also a long time camper from the 50s and long time Riding instructor. The Petersens now reside in North Carolina and Evelyn on the other side of the Hudson.
